Welcome/Willkommen!

Hello and welcome. Hope you enjoy the images I have posted. Please do not reproduce them without my permission. Most are available as note/greeting cards or as prints/enlargements. Thank you for visiting my site and your comments.
Many have asked about the Header image above, which I named 'Eerie Genny'. It was originally shot with film [taken on the shore of the Genesee River near the Univ. of Rochester]. During the darkroom development, I flashed a light above the tray. The process, known as 'solarization', produces eerie, ghostlike effects; some have mistaken this image as an infra-red photo. Some 35+ years later, I scanned and digitized the print, and did a little modern day editing, and, voila.

Flaum Institute Atrium [Sky Watch Friday]

My wife had some minor eye surgery a few weeks ago at the Flaum Eye Institute [in Strong Memorial Hospital of Rochester]. After the post-op examination on the following day, I was standing at the check out desk and noticed the atrium, from which were hung various colorful objet d'art. Well, having only my cell phone camera with me, I had to shoot some pics. Actually, apart from a bit of 'noise', they turned out rather well; here is the best example [I will go back there with a 'real' camera next week]. In the meantime, Happy Easter/Happy Passover to those who celebrate them.

Shadows

Belonging to a group of photographers can be rewarding, entertaining and educational.  Here in Rochester, home of Kodak, there are many gifted 'photogs', and they span many decades in age and experience. What is especially nice is that, in general, the pros are willing to share their knowledge with newbies and veterans alike. This helps to create a harmonious community in which we can all admire and critique each others' work [part of the learning/growing process]. I belong to one such group, which gathers on a monthly basis to view our images that fulfill an assigned theme. Below are  two images for the assignment: shadows or silhouettes [or both].  Obviously, I chose shadows; both of these images were generated with my cell phone camera. The conversion to B&W was done during editing.

Marktplatz in Halle [Sky Watch Friday]

There are many interesting towns in the former DDR including Halle, situated in Sachsen-Anhalt along the river Saale. It was one of the major cities of East Germany until the reunification. This image was originally on a 2x2 color slide, which was recently scanned and digitalized. It was taken in the Marktplatz [market place], and it includes a statue honoring George Friedrich Handel [left], the Marktkirche [center] and the Roter Turm [right].  I was fortunate to have a fine sky to shoot against.

Papa! Ice cream!

Personally, I really like this image because there are any number of stories one can make up about the scene. First, some background: this was shot at an outdoor market in Nürnberg, Germany last September. This little boy made a bee-line for the ice cream stand [wouldn't you?], and tried in vain to see what was in the glass showcase. Of course, he called for his Papa, who arrived in short order.  Rather than picking up and treating his son to some delicious ice, he carried him away [in tears]. So, there was no 'Kodak moment' to shoot. Sorry the story did not have a happy ending. But, for a brief time, the boy's excitement/anticipation was high, and I caught it.
