Welcome/Willkommen!

Hello and welcome. Hope you enjoy the images I have posted. Please do not reproduce them without my permission. Most are available as note/greeting cards or as prints/enlargements. Thank you for visiting my site and your comments.
Many have asked about the Header image above, which I named 'Eerie Genny'. It was originally shot with film [taken on the shore of the Genesee River near the Univ. of Rochester]. During the darkroom development, I flashed a light above the tray. The process, known as 'solarization', produces eerie, ghostlike effects; some have mistaken this image as an infra-red photo. Some 35+ years later, I scanned and digitized the print, and did a little modern day editing, and, voila.

Circles 5 [Orange You Glad It’s Friday]

Sometimes circles or circle-like shapes appear in unexpected places or objects. Today’s images fall into that category. The baseball caps below were shot at Rochester's Public Market. The orange color jumps right out at you, but the circles are a bit more subtle.

While there is only a hint of orange in the wood, the circles are fairly prominent.

The image below was shot with my cell phone in the de Cordova Museum Sculpture Garden in Lincoln, MA. Shown here is only a portion of the unusual structure, entitled Lincoln, which must be about 100 feet in length. It is set up on a hillside, and kids love to crawl/walk in and out the openings. Here you can see a small child in the background, which helps give scale to the sculpture.

The next image was shot in a laundromat. I couldn't believe my good fortune when I looked through the window and saw the line of machines.

The final image was from a public men's room some place in London. The only fully circular objects are the three buttons on the wall to flush the toilets, which are roughly elliptical.

Circles 4 [Orange You Glad It’s Friday]

Circles are not confined to inanimate objects, as anyone who has taken floral images can relate to. However, it is a bit more difficult finding something appropriate for OYGIF. So, I was pleasantly surprised looking at what I had shot out in a field of sunflowers [located in Pittsford, a suburb of Rochester, NY, 15-20 min. drive from our home]. While there were spots of orange here and there, my wife’s little shoulder bag made it a ‘no-brainer’. NOTE: In a [non-OYGIF] companion posting, I have several images shot in infrared at the same field.

World of InfraRed 8

As a companion to my posting today in Orange You Glad It’s Friday, here are shots I made at the same location using a camera modified for infra red photography. [NOTE: If you scroll down far enough, you will come to earlier World of InfraRed postings.] This vast sunflower field is located in Pittsford, a suburb of Rochester, NY.

Circles 3 [Orange You Glad It’s Friday]

Circles come in both 2-D and 3-D. These forms will be evident in today’s posting, as well as in the coming weeks. The manhole covers and glove shots below are good 2-D exemplars.

The lamp globes below are clearly in the 3-D group. The building in the background was the Lincoln Chase Tower [I don’t know its current name] in downtown Rochester, one of the most frequently photographed buildings in town. I confess to making a mistake by not shooting these a step [or two] to the left in order to get ‘perfectly’ symmetrical images.

The last 3-D example is a group of old bowling balls that were piled up on the lawn of a local artist who has a wildly eclectic collection of items on his property.
