I repeat a comment made by a Rochester professional photographer, whom I admire and respect. “The best camera you own is the one you have with you at the time.” Too often one happens to see something that is crying out to be photographed; and, alas, no camera is at hand. Other times, only one’s cell phone camera is available. The image below is a case where only my smart phone was handy [maybe that’s why the German word for the cell phone is a Handy].
Welcome/Willkommen!
Hello and welcome. Hope you enjoy the images I have posted. Please do not reproduce them without my permission. Most are available as note/greeting cards or as prints/enlargements. Thank you for visiting my site and your comments.
Many have asked about the Header image above, which I named 'Eerie Genny'. It was originally shot with film [taken on the shore of the Genesee River near the Univ. of Rochester]. During the darkroom development, I flashed a light above the tray. The process, known as 'solarization', produces eerie, ghostlike effects; some have mistaken this image as an infra-red photo. Some 35+ years later, I scanned and digitized the print, and did a little modern day editing, and, voila.

Such an apt quote. I had my small compact camera in my pocket and was able to capture a magnificent sunset last night. I was with my brother, a terrific photographer but alas his equipment was packed neatly away in the boot of the car. What a shame!
Beautiful shot, and totally agree with you about the best camera being the one you have with you!
What a beautiful sky! Good you had your cellphone with you ( I nearly wrote handy ;) )!
